Valentine 2012 @ Vegas Kitchen, Kampar

Each people have his/her own definition on the word "Valentines" and the meaning behind it. To us, Valentine's Day is a day where WyYv will eat till tummy filled with foods :P

For those who had read our blog since last year, you might realized that we had wrote on Vegas Kitchen 2010 and Vegas 2011.

This year of 2012, we celebrated at here again. Why? It's the only place in Kampar that suits our celebration and of course with awesome foods at reasonable price :)

We shall move on to the food shall we?

What we had that day was the "Valentine's Day Set" and Black Pepper Lamb Shank as shown below~
DSC_0270
It's inexpensive (RM13.50). Where on the earth can you get a nicely grilled lamb shank that can satiate your tummy with this price? The meat was at the right level of tenderness although it's well done. The sauce is quite good too, still we miss the mint sauce~ haha..

Follow up by the Valentine's Set shown below.. We had the Set B that night..

The first thing that arrived was the Mango Fruit Cooler...
DSC_0261
Taste real good for those who likes mango flavour, very refreshing and cold. It's just like ice-blended mango.

DSC_0268
Next, we have this Vege Spring Roll.. Freshly fried and crunchy.. We like spring rolls, too bad it's just three of them. I wonder why don't they make it four instead? They're meant to be shared, aren't they?

DSC_0275
The main course of the set, Champaign Chicken. The main focus of the set was this and if you ask me whether this is nice or not? I would say the sauce is very special with the taste of tropical fruits but the chicken was just so-so.. The appearance of this dish is quite attractive with a lot of colours. There was also potato salad hidden behind the huge chicken chop, its palatable.

We won't forget this, the dessert!

DSC_0280
The Strawberry Sailing which looks more like a Banana Sailing to us :D It's ice-cream accompanied by banana, raisins, strawberry and chocolate.. It's a simple dessert to complete the meal!

Prawns Aglio e Olio on a rainy day : )

It's home alone day. What to eat on this rainy day? What's in stock?

DSC_0017

Ingredients (Adapted and modified from noobcook.com)
(Serves 2)

- 2 servings of spaghetti
- 5 garlic cloves, peeled and sliced thinly
- 150 g fresh prawn, shell removed
- 300 g of broccoli
- 1 tbsp + 3 tbsp olive oil
- 20 g butter, cubed
- mixed spices (I bought mine from Tesco)
- black pepper
- salt

Directions
1. Bring a pot of water with 1 tbsp salt to a boil.  Cook spaghetti according to the timing indicated on the packet, until al dente. Drain and set aside the pasta, reserving a small cup of the pasta water.
2. Heat saucepan with 1 tbsp of olive oil. Add prawn, a pinch of salt and black pepper. Stir fry until cooked, about 3 minutes. Set aside cooked shrimps on a plate.
3. Heat 3 tbsp olive oil in the same pan, add garlic and and broccoli. Saute the garlic until it starts to turn light golden brown. Stir fry the broccoli. For crunchier texture stir fry for 5 min; for slightly cooked texture, stir fry for 10 min or boiling it before frying.
4. Turn off the stove. The garlic will continue cooking in the hot oil on its own for a few more seconds in the hot oil, until they turn a lovely golden brown. Melt cubed butter in the garlic & oil mixture.
5. Add cooked pasta,  cooked prawns, salt and mixed spices. Toss to coat all the ingredients evenly, adding some reserved pasta water to help the ingredients bind together.

What to eat at Kampar?

Breakfast- Ah Po Curry Chee Cheong Fan@ Kampar Wet Market
DSC_0007
This has always been our favourite breakfast. Something Asian, but not to heavy, CCF is the best choice.  A combination of the noodle and some chosen "liew" is great enough to fill our growling tummy. Priced around RM 2.50 to RM 3.50 depends on the number of chosen "liew".

Snack before lunch- Apam balik@ Kampar Wet Market
DSC_0017
Apam balik for 30 cents, how could we resist it? The fragrant and crispiness of it always draw us back to the stall even though we are full of the breakfast. truly epicurean!

Lunch- Pork Rib Asam Laksa36 Stalls
DSC_0244
Being bored of eating the same asam laksa all the time? Why not pork ribs asam laksa? We like the rich flavour of the tender pork with the tangy sour laksa. Hot food on sunny day can be exciting, isn't it?A sinful bowl of asam laksa only cost us RM 4.50.

Not a fans of pork but love laksa? There you go the traditional asam laksa. The generous amount of fish and noodles are more than just worthy we could say. RM 3.00 for the decent asam laksa.

Dinner- Claypot Chicken Rice@ Fook Kee
A good treat for friends who visited us during dinner hour. We went back from hotspring at Sungkai with our friends and we were so hungry that we ate 2 big pots of this! (The Sungkai post was last year, this time we went together with our secondary school friends and we didn't take pictures :P )

Back to the dinner.... o.o

Claypot Chicken Rice~
2012-02-05 20.10.13
The chicken is well-marinated and the rice so fragrant. We can say that the Chinese sausage further enhance the taste of the whole thing. Salted fish is also a must in a pot to bring out the flavour! We also feel it's sauce flowing in our mouth with every single bite :)

2012-02-05 20.10.53
It's good to have some vegetables to eat along with the hot claypot chicken, balanced diet ma :P

2012-02-05 19.46.11
One of our friends, EAC keep praising the uncle saying that the uncle's memory is so good that he could remember which claypot chicken is cooked and which haven't. Haha. Everyone has his/her own secret, maybe the pots are arranged in a way that it will be cooked under big fire to smaller fire?

2012-02-05 19.46.07
As you can see from the pictures, this shop has a lot of customers. We waited almost 40 mins for the meal :/ Good food worth our patient :)
The total bill cost us RM 43.00 for 2 large pots of claypot chicken rice, vegetables and drinks.

Besides the Claypot Chicken Rice, you could also eat the Wet Market Porridge. A good meal for those who likes to eat light food during dinner :)

Location: Jalan Idris, Kampung Masjid, 31900 Kampar, Perak. ( next to Watson, opposite KFC)

10:00, it's revision time, assignment time and also hungry time!
What's better than a sinful heavenly taste burger? Even writing this makes me feeling biting one again! RM2. 80 for a burger ayam special. What can you ask for more?
DSC_0184

Want something else? What about Perak style CCF with some fried fish ball?

Shimino Harajuku Japanese Crepe@ Pavilion, KL

Valentine day had just passed. What about something sweet the sustain the sweetness?  A french delight with a Japanese twist, that's Harajuku Japanese Crepes
DSC_0055
DSC_0044
Organic Blueberry Butter Cake@ RM 8.90.
A very sweet treat as a snack during shopping break. The combination of blueberry with butter cake gave us an illusion that it was cheesecake. A lil' too sweet for our liking though!  Yet, it was an antioxidant boosting tea break, wasn't it?

DSC_0054
Banana with Chocolate Ice Cream Crepe @ RM 7.90.
We still prefer this chocolate banana crepe compared to blueberry. Banana and chocolate can never go wrong, isn't it?

DSC_0045
Not a sweet tongue? They also offer various glucose-free crepes like ham and cheese flavour. A piece of advice from us, do share the crepe if you not very hungry. We felt quite bloated after eating 2 crepes. After all, desserts are meant to be shared. :)

A bowl of warm porridge@ Kampar

We have been keep eating rice, rice, rice and rice for dinner.. Eventually we don't feel like eating rice already and we opted for porridge that night :)

There is this porridge stall @ Kampar pasar selling delicious porridge.

DSC_0006a
Guess what's this? Haha.. Fresh Fish Slices~Doesn't it looks like sashimi? It's to serve with the porridge, just dip them inside your hot hot porridge and they will be cooked in no time. Really nice to be served with porridge especially with the appetizing vinegar and sesame oil came with these fish slices :) No worry, the fish slices are boneless.

DSC_0007a
And a plate of Sesame Oil Chicken~ Same with the fish slices, remember to pour some of the sauce of this chicken into the porridge.. Simply delectable!

DSC_0009a
Lastly, how could we miss the white porridge right? :)

Prices
Chicken Porridge @ RM3.50
Fish Slices Porridge @ RM 3.70
